On a gloriously sunny Saturday morning (especially welcome given the torrential rain that has befallen us of recent days), GWR assembled in the shadow of Blaise Castle for another ‘take over’. The high vis heroes were looking resplendent in their pink robes and gave great cheers of encouragement around the course (thank you to Ian, Servane, Sue and Andrew for marshalling).
First into the -beautifully constructed- finish funnel, was our very own Callum Moore! Timed to perfection by Dan and Sarah. Sam Phillips was next through (for GWR) and would have finished in 2nd place (actually in 3rd) would it not have been for some confusion as to where the finish was! Sam Mumford ensured they kept in order as they progressed through the funnel.
Having helped set up earlier on, Will Gillett was next in for GWR (somewhat ahead of his brother Joe who only crossed the start line at 9:10 am (slightly confusing Callum who thought – for a shocking moment- that he might have been stealthily overtaken!).
James Healy was next in closely followed by Fi Lang and then (having stormed through the field) Joe Gillett was after. Coming back to form after having her first child, Rosie was next through the finish (with future GWR star Otis cheering her on). After her came Nadia -who put on her world-renowned sprint finish when she remembered she had another job to do! After finishing, she donned her pink high-vis and joined Kelly in giving out finishing tokens.
Next up was John and Rhian (who is making a strong comeback after injury) with Gemma Portis and (our dear leader) Mark not too far adrift. Jo Portis and Nic brought up the rear with some top-quality tail walking.
All of their finish tokens were scanned by Karen, Ian, John and Callum (after being refused his first-choice role of timekeeper -whilst also running!).
All in all, it was a fabulous event and, as said by the run director, we clearly are a friendly bunch.
