Coaching

Coaching sessions are held on Tuesday evenings at the Portway Rugby Development Centre. All members are welcome.

Timings:
Sessions start with a warm up at 19:00 and finish at 20:30.

Mike Hockett

Mike has been running for over 20 years (including in the military), is First Aid Trained and has been a GWR Member since April 2002

Lucy Ellis

Lucy Ellis
- UK Athletics Coach - Level 2

Lucy started running 4 years ago for fitness and since joining GWR in December 2006 now regularly trains and competes. She qualified as a UK Athletics Level 2 Coach in July 2008.

Andrea Culp

Andrea Culp
- UK Athletics Coach - Level 2

Andrea began running as a child, and hasn't stopped since. She regularly trains and competes with GWR since joining in September 2007. Andrea qualified as a UK Athletics Level 2 Coach in July 2008.

Graham Grew

Graham Grew
- UK Athletics Coach - Level 2

Graham is an experienced athlete with over 30 years of running experience. Personal bests include a 2.30 marathon and 1.10 half marathon.
As well as coaching Graham is a competitive vet runner.
 

Hannah Freeth

Medic First Aid
Sports medicine

Hannah is a full time physiotherapist within the NHS, She also works with a football team as a team physio.
She is also a keen athlete a competes regularly.

Jamie Richards

Jamie Richards
- Nutritional therapist
DipION, Fdsc, mBANT
NTC registered practitioner

Jamie instructs our athletes on correct nutrition needed for beginners to elite runners.
He also gives regular lectures at the club.


Arrangements:

If it's too wet to use the grass, or for a change, sessions are held at a nearby location, but still starting at the Portway Rugby Development Centre.


Parking:
Park at the Portway Rugby Development Centre (access via Portway - Northbound i.e. heading out of the City towards Shirehampton.)


Showers/Changing etc.
Showers, changing and kit store are also available, along with the opportunity to purchase teas and coffees afterwards.

Other Refreshments:
Manor Farm Football Club (who are adjacent to the Portway Rugby Development Centre are happy for us to use their bar facilities afterwards for a drink and a chat. Just say you’re from the Rugby Club doing the athletics coaching session training, and that will be fine to use the bar.

We also organise a number of courses, including Novice runner training nights.

Remember: the club now has three Level 2, two Level 1 qualified Coaches plus others who are "Fitness In Running and Walking" licensed. These people volunteer to give up their time to support your development. Please take advantage of this opportunity!

GWR Coaches

The team offers all round development for the athlete including advice from our physiotherapist and nutritionist giving you the very best in coaching.
