Footnotes - Runner Profile - Tanya
What started you running?
My brother motivated me to enter my first 5k road race when I was 13.
Why did you choose GWR?
My friends were already members of the club and recommended it.
Why do you run now?
There are many reasons why I run now… I run for the health and fitness
benefits, for the socializing, I enjoy being outside, and I like racing
because it allows you to set "accomplish-able" goals and then work to
achieve them.
How much of your running is done alone?
About half of my running is done alone.
What do you carry with you when running?
Identification.
Do you have a favourite route?
Not really!
What attracts you to a race?
I like to enter races where I know my friends will be running as well. I am
not particularly good at hills, so the flatter the better. And I appreciate
nice scenery!
What’s the most memorable prize you have won at a race?
I once won a dozen double-yolked eggs at the Thousand Islands Parkway
Half-Marathon in Mallorytown, Ontario, Canada.
What has been your biggest personal
achievement/ brought the biggest smile to your face?
Oh, this is a difficult question, but I was very happy when I completed
Ironman Switzerland in July 2006.
Do you have any pet hates about runners or race organisers or GWR?
Well, I guess I don’t like being beaten by people in fancy dress!
On the days you aren’t running, what do you do in your free time?
Swim or cycle (or read or eat)
Do you suffer withdrawal symptoms when you can’t get your normal quote of
running? i.e. Are you addicted to running?
Yes, I am addicted to running. My most common side-effect is a decrease in
self-image.
What do your non running members of your family think of your habit?
I have heard that some runners have families that think they are completely
nuts. My family is amazingly understanding and supportive, especially
considering they are not runners themselves. |
