Footnotes - Seasonal Advice

Now the nights are drawing in and we are coming to the season of Autumn fruitfulness I feel it is time to highlight some of the hazards of running at this time of year. Ignoring the normal hazards of cars, dogs etc.

Conkers: Those of you who have run round the downs on a windy day will know what I mean. If the things aren't falling on you, people are throwing sticks at them.

Students: When the students return, why do they for the first few months all walk 5 or 6 abreast, so I can't get past so have to run into the road, and they never hear when you ask them to move out the way? Later in the year they seem to walk more sensibly.

Running on club night in a group: You are running along in a group, near the back, talking to someone and suddenly the group goes round something. Once I wasn't concentrating and ran into a sign, and the second time a car was coming the other way and its headlights dazzled me so I ran straight into a runner coming the other way. Let's say he was not pleased.

So be careful out there!
