London Marathon 2004 - Draw for Club Guaranteed Entries

As an affiliated club, GWR gets a number of guaranteed entries for the London Marathon, which is being held on Sunday 18th April 2004. Allocation is based on the number of first claim club members we have over the age of 18, and the number of votes we have at Avon County meetings. This year we have again received an allocation of 3 entries.

Please note the following Rules and Timetable, as the window of opportunity to make the draw, get the paperwork sorted out and back to London Marathon by their deadline is tight.

The draw will be held on Wednesday 7th January 2004 at the club, at 7pm. As well as drawing for the number of guaranteed entries we are allocated, a reserve name will be selected in case one of the lucky entries cannot run.

Following feedback from members, the Rules for this year are:

1) You must have been rejected by the official London entry postal ballot
2) You must not already have/will be getting an entry for the 2004 event, either:
a. Via the “Good For Age” system
b. Via a UK Athletics and AAA of England Championship place
c. By using a personal guaranteed place, having pulled it forward from the 2003 race due to sickness, injury or laziness
3) You must have been a 1st claim GWR member in 2003 (as this is how London Marathon decide the number of guaranteed entries we are given) and must have renewed your membership for 2004 before the draw takes place

If you want to enter the draw, contact me, providing your contact details, via:

In person: At Wednesday night club night
e-mail: nigel.barker@blueyonder.co.uk
Post: 42 Church Leaze, Shirehampton, BRISTOL. BS11 9SZ
Telephone: 0117 904 7626

Also, please remember:
• Lucky winners of the GWR Draw are responsible for the correct completion and timely return of their entry, with payment, direct to London Marathon
• I will let the reserve have the contact details of the winners. It will then be their personal responsibility to check with those who have been allocated the places and, if appropriate, following and completion of the process to take their place by the cut off time dictated by the London Marathon

Timetable

• Mid/late December: Completion of mailing of acceptances/rejections by London Marathon
• Wednesday 7th January 2004: Deadline for requests to enter the GWR Draw to be received by GWR Secretary: 6 pm by post/telephone; 6.45 pm in person at BLTSC
• Wednesday 7th January 2004 – 7pm: Draw at Bristol Lawn Tennis and Squash Club
• Friday 16th January 2004: Closing date for completed club entry forms to be returned to London Marathon, with appropriate entry fee
